Chipping away at our freedom

By Marcia Thurnbauer

Has anybody else been wondering what former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson has been up to since he left his position as U.S. secretary of health and human services earlier this year? It turns out he assumed a position as a director of VeriChip Corp., a division of Florida-based Applied Digital and a leading developer of human implanted microchip technology, also known as radio-frequency identification.

Such devices have been used for years to help identify pets that are lost or otherwise separated from their owners. All the animal shelter needs to do is scan the pet. The microchip will reveal a code that can be used to locate the owner and -presto! - Fido is reunited with his grateful human family.

But what about more important lost (or kidnapped) souls, such as children or wandering Alzheimer's patients?

It isn't much of a leap to see how corporations might be motivated (by profit, of course) to develop attractive human applications for this technology.

Already, VeriChip is marketing the implants to people for medical "peace of mind." It seems the chips can provide access to a patient's medical records in case of an emergency.

In Spain, a nightclub is offering microchips that function as sort of implanted ATMs; patrons can pay for cover charges and drinks simply by passing their arms under a scanner.

Using global positioning systems, the possibility exists that people with implanted chips could be tracked and located. (Useful if one is lost or for convicts on the lam, but who wants to feel like a perpetually endangered species wearing the human equivalent of a radio collar?)

Research is also being conducted to record neurological activity in "healthy" individuals that can be stored on chips that are then implanted into people who are paralyzed or depressed in the hope of someday creating artificial neurological impulses that can generate greater mobility or a sunny disposition.

If all of this is eerily reminiscent of the 1970s sci-fi drama "The Six Million Dollar Man" ("We have the technology . . . We can rebuild him . . . Make him better, stronger, faster"), consider that microchip R&D is racing forward much more quickly than most of the public realizes.

But do we really want science fiction to become reality? At what point does a technology that offers certain conveniences become so indoctrinated that we wake up one day only to realize that virtually every aspect of our lives can be tracked, traced, regenerated and scanned 24/7?

If you think that's far-fetched, can you imagine living without a credit card these days? Many merchants won't accept anything but plastic. Who ever thought paying for certain things - like an airline ticket or a hotel room - with cash would be a suspicious activity?

Yet all of our purchases, and much of our physical movement, can now be tracked via our credit trail. What happens if the day comes when you can't board an airplane, rent a car or charge dinner without an implant that identifies you or debits your bank account?

I imagine some folks would accept this trade-off as another necessary sacrifice of freedom for greater convenience and potential safety. (That certainly happened with the USA Patriot Act after 9-11.)

But once this proverbial horse is out of the barn, we may all find ourselves trampled by a technology that started out with good intentions but evolves into an insidious method of population control as utilization reaches critical mass.

This technology will catch on quickly. Before we blindly embrace it, we need to carefully consider the potential consequences and publicly debate its acceptable limits.

Fortunately, at least one Wisconsin legislator has foreseen the implications of radio-frequency identification if it ever becomes an involuntary requirement. Rep. Marlin Schneider (D-Wisconsin Rapids) has introduced a bill that would prohibit anyone (including the government and employers) from requiring people to receive microchip implants.

In his new role with VeriChip, Thompson has announced that he will have a chip implanted. (In fact, it may be a done deal by now.)

But don't be lulled by a popular former politician with a newfound profit motive.

I bet he will say it didn't hurt a bit.

NRA says: 'Accept gun control' - ACTION NEEDED

By Ken Rineer

If you're an NRA donor, it appears your pro-gun money may now be funding an insider deal to push gun control into law. And with gun owners being dragged from their homes and disarmed in the wake of the recent natural disaster, this is the worst possible time for such complicity.

That's why you must call the NRA today, so we can pass H.R. 800 -- a clean House version of the gun makers and sellers protection act.

As you know, the Senate version of this bill (S 397) recently passed with several anti-gun amendments. But the House version, H.R. 800, is still a straight forward pro-gun bill with no concessions to the gun grabbers.

Action:

1. Call the NRA at 800-392-8683 and tell them to stop supporting S. 397 and support H.R. 800. The NRA always says they don't support gun control. This is their chance to PROVE it. Tell them to fight for H.R. 800 -- a gun control FREE version of S 397.

2. Call your state congressional delegation. Tell them ONLY H.R. 800 is acceptable. Do not allow S. 397 to be marked up by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, in place of H.R. 800! Call the Capitol switchboard, toll free, by calling 1-877-762-8762. When they answer, ask for your representative.

2nd Amendment nixed in New Orleans

New Orleans is no longer part of America. It is a brave new world devised by FEMA and the Ministry of Homeland Security. In the new New Orleans, there are no constitutional rights. Not only are soldiers allowed to break down doors (as they do in Iraq) in violation of the Fourth Amendment and even “shoot to kill” if they believe they are threatened (as soldiers in Iraq “shoot to kill” grandmothers and kids at Israeli-styled checkpoints), now the Second Amendment no longer exists.
original 2nd Amendment article

“Waters were receding across this flood-beaten city today as police officers began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here,” reports the New York Times. “No civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns or other firearms, said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police. ‘Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons,’ he said.”

Major Victory For Firearms Owners And Freedom In Louisiana

NRA-ILA | September 24 2005
http://www.prisonplanet.com/Pages/Sept05/240905NRA.htm

The United States District Court for the Eastern District in Louisiana today sided with the National Rifle Association (NRA) and issued a restraining order to bar further gun confiscations from peaceable and law-abiding victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

“This is a significant victory for freedom and for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The court’s ruling is instant relief for the victims who now have an effective means of defending themselves from the robbers and rapists that seek to further exploit the remnants of their shattered lives,” said NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

The Killer Vaccines: An Honest Physician Warns of Serious Dangers

from Newsmax Dr. Russell Blaylock
Vaccines routinely given to millions of children and adults can be very dangerous to your health, a respected neurosurgeon warns.

"The medical industry is making a fortune promoting and requiring unnecessary vaccinations," Dr. Russell Blaylock warns in The Blaylock Wellness Report – published by NewsMax.com.

Dr. Blaylock says that during the past few decades we have seen a “vaccination explosion.”

For example, the number of vaccines given to children has increased from a few vaccines, for polio and other common childhood diseases during the 1950s, to some 22 mandatory inoculations for many schoolchildren today.

Vaccines are even being promoted for newborns, often for diseases that pose no risk to children. The greatest danger is the vaccines themselves.

WASHINGTON D.C. TRAITORS -- North American Union Already Starting to Replace USA

Here is written proof that we are going to be turned into an American Union
and lose our country to globalism. This is already in place unless we stand
up and stop these globalist madmen. We don't have much time left to stop
this takeover.

1) THE HONORABLE NORMAN Y. MINETA SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION NORTH AMERICAN MARINE CONFERENCE ON SHORT SEA SHIPPING VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
2) North American Superstate
3) North American Union to Replace USA?
4) Birch Society Broke Story About North American Union in
2005
5)George Bush President immigrants In March 2005 at their summit meeting in Waco, Tex.,
President Bush, President Fox and Prime Minister Martin issued a joint
statement announced the creation of the “Security and Prosperity Partnership
of North America” (SPP).

It starts: Thank you, Minister Cannon, for that kind introduction. But, more
importantly, thank you for your gracious hospitality here in Vancouver.

Thank you also to Mexico’s General Coordinator of Ports and Merchant Marine,
Cesar Reyes, for being with us.

Transportation systems are the backbone of all modern economies, and their
effectiveness is vital to economic expansion today and in the future. So I
am pleased to join with our Canadian and Mexican counterparts to discuss how
we can enhance the use of efficient transportation options like Short Sea
Shipping here in North America.

President Bush believes that good public policy begins with the building of
a stable and successful neighborhood. So when he met with Prime Minister
Stephen Harper of Canada and President Vicente Fox of Mexico in late March,
he reaffirmed the United States strong commitment to a safer and more
prosperous North America.

Key Words

by Joe Sobran

In The Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton made an argument for ratifying the Constitution that deserves more attention. The proposed Constitution, he said, would be superior to the (unwritten) British constitution in this respect: It would be "unalterable by the government."

A simple and profound point. In Britain, freedom of speech or habeas corpus could be abolished by a mere act of Parliament; but here, so radical a change would have to be made by the people through the difficult process of amendment. What, after all, would be the use of a constitution if the government could change it at its own pleasure?

Is Minnesota's circumcision law discriminatory?

Circumcision is free to those who practice faith, unless its the Christian faith! - from KSTP.com
Honesty may be the best policy, but in the State of Minnesota it might cost you $150.  A Minnesota law passed two years ago says the state doesn't cover newborn circumcisions unless it's medically necessary or part of someone's religious practice, such as Jews and Muslims.

Illegals & Socialists Rally in St. Paul, say enforcing the law is just unfair to NON citizens

An Angry Mob struck fear into ordinary citizens who with Children scrambled to get out of the path and into cars, buildings or whatever place of safety while they chanted and pushed forward on them. This is after protesting Gov Pawlenties mansion, Norm Coleman's home while being escorted by many cops who had to be paid overtime for this event, stiffing the taxpayers yet again. ueWhile the workplace raids are all about people here illegally and job enforcement. I keep seeing non illegal "white folks" who seem to be from other groups. With mung, SOmali, Chinese, Baltic & Spanish folks as newcomers here. All the focus seems to be on Latin folks and written in Spanish. Dsc02531Illegalprotest There seems to be a focus on allowing sub minimum wage earners to be recognized by the unions, social justice for non citizens, and basic lies about all people coming here just to work. If an employer breaks the law and hires people who shouldn't be working here, why on earth would you NOT want the law enforced, if not to protect citizens and the general populace.  The Red star Tribune  interviewed a Radical prof at the U of M, who doesn't have a teaching degree Susana DeLeon Who calls "white" Europeans wetbacks since they crossed the atlantic, what a great summary of this whole stupid "bowel" movement.

Workers death spurs charges or maybe we should rethink this illegal employment thing

When I read this I thought my head was going to start spinning. First it sounds horrendous laborer dies on the job in a pile of animal food, then I realize he’s Hispanic, then its revealed he’s an “immigrant” no mention of status. Then its mentioned deaths of Hispanics are up all over the country, and then its citied “not being fluent in English can be a problem, said Bernie Hesse “. Gee ya think?  I’d think so if there’s a warning sign, instructions, or common sense markings that aren’t understood.  So he unsafly tried to unclog an auger, its dangerous and you shouldn’t attempt this alone.  I personally worked in a food  factory in my college years, which had a syrup tumbler I got caught in once, some fool turned it on while I was cleaning it. Good ole English problems again or just plain stupidity,  with questionable greencard or illegal workers the largest problem was people eating off the assembly lines with bare hands, not wearing the gloves, or washing the hands when returning from the restrooms. They were told many times to not do this in English and later accommodated in Spanish.  I will never buy a box of that cereal as I can guess who “fingered the food” before I got to it.
This case  is NOT an OSHA issue, the warnings were there in ENGLISH! Why the bleep don’t we require English to be our official language is beyond me!

So let me guess the solution will be for US to change to accommodate people who come here breaking the law and to make them feel welome, pay them aid money, and change OUR lives to accommodate unwanted “guests”.  I wonder how much press coverage and investigating this mans status as part of the problem will occur? Then I learn … his wife and children, who lived in the border city of Juarez, Mexico

Stephanie Bates of the Midwest Coalition of Human Rights, a group that supports proposed legislation aimed at protecting packinghouse workers by requiring adequate plant facilities, training and information in their native languages.

A [stupid]  bill introduced this year in the Minnesota Legislature.  The bill also would create a new ombudsman position at the state Department of Labor and Industry to inspect and review practices at packing plants in the state and to ensure worker rights are protected. The bill's authors are Rep. Rick Hansen, DFL-South St. Paul, and Sen. James Metzen, DFL-South St. Paul. The bill would not have protected Carrasco, however, because it covers only packinghouse workers.

NO! That is NOT the solution. Instead require some common sense, personal responsibility and hold them accountable, fire people who violate the safety violations and potentially poison other people. Punish the employers with raids and MASSIVE fines who hire these people, and control our borders.  We don’t need an army of ditch diggers coming here who don’t speak English, will need massive welfare, health coverage and come with education needs. That is NOT the jjob of our government or OUR TAX DOLLARS. It will save THEIR lives and OURS!

Now they are being fined, for the wrong reasons, by OSHA for no Spanish signs!!!?  How about for hiring illegal's in the first place!…sigh…

WND LAW OF THE LAND: Minnesota to give non-citizens the vote? Plan would limit new privilege to those in U.S. legally Posted: March 14, 2007 1:00 a.m. Eastern

How nice Minnesota makes the news again, why does it seem to always be from a perversion or some idiotic anti-American sovereignty issue like this one...

Plan would limit new privilege to those in U.S. legally Posted: March 14, 2007 1:00 a.m. Eastern  © 2007 WorldNetDaily.com  Elected leaders in Minnesota are thinking about giving non-citizens the right to vote. According to a report in the Pioneer Press,
Rep. Phyllis Kahn, D-Minneapolis, ((DFL) 59B 59B

Address:  115 West Island Ave Minneapolis,  55401
Phone:  612-378-2591)  introduced a plan for a constitutional amendment to let residents who are not yet citizens of the United States vote.

The Minnesota Monitor said Democrats Jim Davnie and Frank Hornstein, from Minneapolis, and St. Paul's Carlos Mariani joined as sponsors.

I signed onto it because I believe it is important that people most affected by local decisions (such [as] levels of fire protection) have some way to hold decision makers accountable," said Mariani.

He said these people probably will be citizens in the future and this is "a good way to prepare them for that eventuality."

The Smoking Nazi's are at it again. statewide smoking ban will be committee Saturday March 24, 2007 at 8:30 AM

Please join us at the State Capitol, room 123 if your available. We expect the Finance Committee will strip the bill of all amendments (just like all other amendments that have been added) and send a total smoking ban to the floor for a vote.

No public testimony is accepted at this committee meeting. The DFL leadership has made it clear to all senators this must be a "clean" bill. A clean bill means no amendments to exempt any entity except the Indian Casino's, religious ceremony's or scientific studies.

This bill has been before some committees in the senate. Unfortunately, in most cases we have not been allowed to present our case for bar/restaurant exemptions or to challenge many of the claims the anti smoking advocates continue to use to justify a strict smoking ban. We have provided hundreds of studies, including the Surgeon General, showing there is no harm from SHS in your local bar. We have debunked the health care costs. We have shown the damage to businesses, jobs, charitable gambling and revenues to cities and counties in MN and across the US, who have already enacted local smoking bans. We have talked about property rights and the use of a legal product by adults. We have provided all polls done by impartial sources showing between 56-63% support allowing smoking in bars. Sometimes all of that in under one minute.

Sadly, many of the senators have not yet heard our side speak to the issue because they are not on the committees we have been in front of. They have only been exposed to the exaggerated, flawed and surely one sided data of the well paid lobbyists for the anti smoking advocates. Yet, the senate will convene at noon and we expect a floor vote on the smoking ban at that time.

Below are the senators we would like you to call. It is too late for emails. Call anytime, they have message machines and few will actually call you back or even take your call. Send this list to everyone you can think of who will help!

Finance Committee: will vote Sat. AM at 8:30, all phone numbers are 651.296.
Don Betzold, Fridley: 2556
James Metzin, S. St. Paul: 4370
Steve Murphy, Red Wing: 4264
LeRoy A Stumpf, Plummer: 8660
