Does the GOP have a log in it's eye?

No I don't think condemning homosexuality or abortion is self righteous or wrong in and of itself. I agree that those things are wrong but the problem I have is that is all the right wing Christians talk about. They don't talk about the wrongness of greed, the wrongness of corporate CEO's getting extravagant bonuses while employees are laid off or have to take pay cuts. Nor do right wing Christians talk about companies that promise pensions and then break their promises or about companies shipping jobs oversees for profit. Nor do they talk about politicians who pledge no taxes and then try to deceive us by calling it a fee. That is a lie and God calls lying an abomination. Nor do the right wing Christians hold an administration accountable for lying about the cost of medicare, or an administration that witholds doubts about WMD but rather exaggerates slim evidence. I don't hear the right wing Christians outraged at the outing of a CIA agent. Nor do I here them bothered by the antics of Karl Rove. He has a history of dirty politics and there is James Dobson being cozy with Karl Rove. What hypocrisy! As thou all God cared about was homosexuality and abortion. The Republican party is rift with corruption and the right wing Christians say nothing! Look at what is going on in Washington right now. Look at all the probes and investigations into are so called "godly" leaders from Tom Delay to the White House. And the right wing Christians say nothing! Cause all God cares about is homosexuality and abortion right? We all know that homosexuality is more vile than lying and deception right?

You are wrong sir! Jesus gave strong rebukes to the Pharisees who put on airs of righteousness and were corrupt within. All I ever hear is charges against those godless liberals. What about charges against those corrupt conservatives who claim to be godly and hang out with religious leaders? As long as Republicans are against abortion James Dobson turns a deaf ear to their corruption.

You guys turn a deaf ear to to the shady deals Dick Cheney made while CEO of Halliburtion. You guys said nothing when Cheney told Senator Leahy to "F*** himself" on the Senate floor. Where were the Christian voices saying that is inappropriate? You right wing Christians are totally silent at the corruption in the Republican party but you sure can point fingers at those godless liberals.

Then you send out an email suggesting that people who love god and country and are red blooded Americans should wear red on Fridays. Well guess what there are people who love this country, love God and are red blooded Americans oppose this war vehemently. Many believe we were lied into this war by a so called "godly" administration.

I tell you sir pharisaism is just as vile as abortion and homosexuality. And while the Democrats may be rightly charged with being godless the Republicans may be rightly charged with pharisaism and corruption putting on airs of righteousness.

The self righteousness of the right is just as repugnant as those who advocate abortion and gay marriage. The right fails to see the big big big log in their own eyes.It is so vile! And not any less vile than homosexuality or abortion.

Who says sodomy or homosexuality or abortion are the issue of the day? Who says self righteousness and pride aren't the issue of the day? You think these sins are any less vile than homosexuality or abortion? What about pride, rebellion, idolatry, greed, materialism? Are these less serious than homosexuality or abortion? Is it only homosexuality and abortion that plagues our culture? If I observe the right wing I would have to conclude that God is only concerned about those two issues. And only those two issues will bring down our society right?

Homosexuality is not the root of our problems. It is a judgment from God on a world that turned it's back on God. The issue is not to treat the symptom but the cause which is rebellion and idolatry. And we are all guilty of that. The need of the world and of society is to turn back to God. That is not accomplished thru politics but thru a repentant church. You want to see this land healed. Stop going after homosexuals and pray for revival in the church. God already told us what the solution was in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

And My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

When Christians repent of their own sins and turn to God, when they start living authentically, ministering to each other and to sinners, when they start being light, when they love God and others as He commands the world will take notice.

It is so easy to put a bumper sticker on your car or attend a rally. That doesn't cost much. Oh but to be a disciple that is another matter. It would be so much easier to point fingers and shout at sinners but God says love them and minister to them and model His righteousness. Kinda hard to model God's righteousness when you get cozy and endorse leaders who lie and are involved in corporate scandals. You kinda lose credibility.

I wonder why people hate right wing Christians? Is it because of their message or because of their methods? Oh I am sure many do not like the Christian message but I wonder how many are put off by the methods right wing Christians use?

Do you think people think right wing Christians are love or hate filled? Consider if people asked to give an immediate response of like or dislike of certain people how do you think Billy Graham would do compared to Jerry Falwell or James Dobson? I venture to say Billy Graham would rate favorable and Jerry Falwell and James Dobson would rate poor. People see Billy Graham as compassionate and Jerry Falwell and James Dobson as hate filled and self righteous. Strange isn't it? They are all preaching the gospel. You never heard Billy Graham endorse homosexuality or abortion. I haven't heard all his sermons I bet he called homosexuality and abortion a sin. Isn't that strange. All three preach the same message but two come across as hate filled. Why is that?

I wonder what is more important? For Christians to point out sins or to model love and (God supplied and produced) righteousness?

Christians must deal with their phoniness, lack of humility, idolatry, pride, selfishness and as they see what continual sinner they are they will begin to have compassion on sinners and will use compassionate methods to reach them.

One of the reasons Christians like to focus on homosexuality or abortion is because they are not guilty of that sin and so it is safe in a self righteous way to attack that sin. Oh but if they took to heart the Beattitudes and the Sermon on the Mount maybe they might not be so self confident and so proud that they are not guilty of homosexuality or abortion. Maybe they might realize that they too need God's grace and forgiveness daily and continually. That their is sins are deplorable too.

I am not saying ignore homosexuality or abortion but clearly these are not the only sins that are going on right now that God detests. Neither do I think these are the only sins God targets.

The self righteous right wing Christians forgets how deplorable their daily sins are.
Oh that they would take the log out of their own eye before attempting to get the speck out of the sinner's eye.

You right wingers might be fighting one sin but in doing so are ignoring your own sins and using hate methods to do it. I don't see how that is any better.

Do you really think if Jesus were here today He would hold up signs at a rally decrying homosexuality? I don't think so. He would associate with homosexuals, minister to them and love them to repentance.

You want to reach homosexuals then love them, minister to them, find out what there needs are. If you can't love and minister to them keep silent. Protests are not God's way. Aren't you glad God didn't sit outside your house and make a sign protesting your sins?

How does God deal with sin? Check out Romans 2:4

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

You have to ask yourself are you concerned about the sinner or by the offensive sin? What is your motive? The actions of most right wing Christians does not in the least suggest they are concerned about the sinner. I wonder how many of them want those sinners to burn in hell?

I think the right wing Christians need to read and re-read 1 Corinthians 13. They might have a righteous cause but without love it is worthless. The question is what is their motive? Are they irritated at the sin or are they concerned about the sinner? If that is the case they have missed the wonder of the gospel: The God of grace and truth who longs for and woos sinners to repentance, to restoration and a relationship with Him. Is reconciliation of the sinner to God the motive of most right wingers or is it eradication of an offensive sin?

Our job is to reflect the God who is full of grace and truth. To tell you the truth I don't see much grace in right wing Christians.

A side-note : I think it is a mistake for Christians to get so entangled in political parties. The problem is there is good and bad in both parties. Both parties try to address valid issues but neither party deals with all the issues that need to be addressed. To say one party's issues are more important than the other's is not true. While it is good to stop abortion and gay marriage as conservatives try to do it is also good to protect workers rights, to make sure they are not cheated by corporations and to protect the environment as liberals try to do. All are moral issues. It is wrong to say all that counts is abortion and homosexuality. Treating workers as people rather than as expendable resources is also important. No party has a corner on morality. We need to stop acting like one does. There is good and bad in both parties.

Christians forget that they are here temporarily and get distracted from building God's Kingdom in His way by focusing instead on trying Christianize people thru government. Consider that Jesus and Paul lived during the Roman Empire and yet you never see them trying to bring change is thru government or politics. God's way is to change the individual thru His power and to build a church from a collection of people. It is His living church that testifies to the reality of the living God. It is the church thru the Spirit that restrain evil. While government may restrain evil it can't change people's hearts. That is a spiritual job that needs to be done by God and His church. The right wing Christians have put way to much emphasis on politics rather than on getting Christians to live authentic lives. It is so much easier to get involved in a political cause or should I say get distracted by a political cause then to get serious about one's own walk.

The authentic Christian involved in a spirit led church will have more eternal impact than a political party trying to eradicate a sin. We were called to build God's Kingdom not change or better society. In fact the bible seems to indicate things will get worse not better in the last days. The job of the church and of Christians is to live authentically. We are to represent Christ. We do that by being authentic and by love. Our job is not to blast sinners but to be real, obedient, humble, and compassionate. Let the Spirit convict sinners thru authentic Christians.

Christians are so blind to the vastness of their sins and to their calling to be righteous. They have forgotten they are a called people. They are entangled in this world and forget that they are aliens and strangers. They get caught up in materialism and forget that this life is fading and they were not called to amass fortunes but to serve the living God. They are called to reflect and make known the living God. They are called to be compassionate to the sinner even as God had compassion on them. Often it is hard to tell the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian. Sometimes non-Christians behave better than Christians.

The need of the hour is for God's people to repent of their idolatry, substituting God's glory with some other pleasure, looking for life in the world's cisterns rather than in the living waters He provides. This is the true offense not homosexuality. Homosexuality is a result of people exchanging God's glory for an idol. And all are guilty! Oh that God's people would see the depth and depravity of their sins and call on the merciful God to forgive, cleanse and heal them. God is concerned about the testimony of His people because they are called to reflect His glory. The church needs revival. The world needs to see an authentic and powerful church that has a living and vital relationship with God. Otherwise the church is just another man made organization or even just a wing of a political party.

Steve asks some good questions, I do not know why you do not hear more Republicans addressing issues that deal with greed and lying. One thing that Steve may not see is that there are two destinct groups in the GOP, the Christian right and the limited government types. Which may not always see eye to eye on all issues. The Christians work on thier issues, and the limited government types work on there issues!

Not all Republicans are Christians, and often the Republicans who are dishonest are not the Christians. Make no mistake that still does not excusss the silents of Christians on way to many issues!

Seems different from your previous posts. Did YOU write this post, or someone else did? Anyway, I think your readers really enjoyed reading it.
